Kids, Teens & Adults Over 50 with Anxiety, Depression, Insomnia, Academic Struggles, Job Stress, and Health Issues

About Me

I am a licensed psychologist with over 25 years' experience providing mental health care to kids (age 7 and up), teens, and adults over 50.

Through individual therapy sessions, I use various types of cognitive behavioral therapy to help people through situations that can leave all of us feeling anxious, depressed, burned out, or overwhelmed. I help clients identify negative thoughts and feelings and replace them with more productive, positive thoughts and actions.

I also help clients with chronic, enduring mental health issues. I collaborate with psychiatrists and other health care providers to support patients who may need medications or who are treating other contributing health conditions.

I am an Assistant Professor at the Yale Department of Psychiatry. My research has been funded by the National Institute of Mental Health, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and the Veterans Administration.

More About Me

The Challenges I Address

I help clients navigate the pressures of school, work, and relationships that can leave us feeling stressed, anxious, depressed, and overwhelmed.

I provide support through major life transitions such as starting a new school, job loss, retirement, or health issues.

I also treat depression, anxiety, phobias, attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD or ADD), and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

My early research and clinical experience focused on older adults, but in recent years, I've been working more often with kids and teenagers (especially boys from age 7 through college).

My Approach

First, I spend an initial session (or two), getting to know your, your chalenges, goals and health history (both mental and physical). Then we talk about the path to get to your goals whether its getting over a specific fear, improving self esteem or moving past a relationship loss.

I use different forms of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), strengths-based approaches (e.g., positive psychology), and other proven methods to help identify, challenge, and replace negative thoughts and behaviors.

Everything I do is rooted in proven, evidence-based psychotherapeutic methods supported by scientific studies. I also focus on overall wellness as research shows that mental health is strongly connected to physical health, including sleep, diet, and physical fitness.
